Plan my college campaign

Small business

Where should a small business advertise to college students?

The right channel depends on whether the job is to capture existing demand, create discovery, or become known on a specific campus.

Start with the buying moment

Search is strong when a student already knows the problem and is actively looking for an answer. Broad social can create visual discovery across a large audience. Campus-native media is strongest when school identity, proximity, or student conversation shapes the decision. Name the buying moment first and the platform choice becomes clearer.

Concentrate before you diversify

A limited budget spread across five channels may produce five incomplete tests. Start with one or two places that best match the audience and objective, then define the threshold for continuing. Concentration gives the campaign enough delivery and the team enough signal to learn something useful.

Match the offer to the distance

Local businesses should make location an advantage. A campus-specific discount, delivery radius, event time, or walkable destination turns a general message into a practical choice. National businesses can use the same principle by adapting the use case to student routines rather than pretending to be local.

Protect the economics

Before launch, write down the allowable acquisition cost, the value of a new customer, and the conversion action the campaign can measure. Review performance by campus as well as in aggregate. A campaign can look average nationally while revealing a handful of schools with strong, repeatable demand.
